Reviews
“As we moved through the cemetery, stopping at various monuments and mausoleums for music and dancing and meditation, we were encouraged to think about our connection to the earth and our place in history — about those that have come before us, and those that will come after us.”
“Oberfelder often makes dances in surprising places. Her company has toted vintage suitcases across bridges in Amsterdam and Berlin, and splashed in public fountains in London. The performances seem to spring spontaneously, yet they are fully considered works of art, and intimate as a personal conversation.”
“These small moments of live art situated among the graves of famous and not so famous New Yorkers, is a spirited, poignant juxtaposition of past, present and whatever comes next.”
“Throughout there is wonderful rapport between dancers and musicians. In a tumbling solo in front of small copper doors, Greenberg deftly matches the acceleration of strings as he maneuvers through headstands. And near the end, when we find ourselves in the oldest part of the cemetery, the Catacombs, the dancers partner Karchin.”
“And Then, Now gives attendees the opportunity to slow down and contemplate as part of an intimate community. ‘Invite someone you’ve lost to walk with us,’ one of the dancers offers.”
