Performing at APAP: Life Traveler

Life Traveler is an immersive, interactive piece that can be performed on any bridge. The work focuses on not only the dancer’s movement, but also the audience’s experience. In this durational piece of interactive dance and conversation, JOP offer’s audiences a chance to pause and reflect on life, age, and journey.

During APAP, we will perform in a unique interstitial interior corridor on 6 1/2 Ave. (between 55th and 56th Street).

The space is wheelchair accessible. Oberfelder’s mission is to create art that activates a space with insights. We invite the audience into intimate engagement, so that more people become involved and have access to it.

The performer traverses a bridge with two vintage suitcases, walking and dancing, and passes a suitcase to a fellow ’traveler.’ A conversation ensues, prompting the participant to consider age, place, time, and presence, creating history as we walk.

Jody Oberfelder Projects presents Amphitheater, a joyous world premiere of live dance of four dancers of JOP and music by grammy award winning trumpeter Frank London, challenges the pending demolition of this 50-acre park that transformed Lower Manhattan more than 80 years ago. Performed on the summer solstice, the premiere is one of the many events around the world for Fête de la Musique and MAKE MUSIC NY, a global festival to encourage free live music and art to fill public spaces. Additionally, the program will open with a poem by Eileen Myles and a land acknowledgement by Emily Johnson.

The rain date will be June 22nd.
